1-Bit Music is a project by composer and artist Tristan Perich. Merging his interests in art and electronic music, Perich programs and packages electronics in a standard CD jewel case that generate minimal glitch/dance music when headphones are plugged in. The music is 1-bit, the simplest representation of digital sound. This 'album' will sit along other CDs in a record store, with 11 different tracks and a skip button. Begun in May 2004, the music is now finished and will soon be released in stores as-is. Please consider the limited edition, or subscribe to the mailing list for future news.

A limited, signed and numbered edition of 1-Bit Music is for sale. A silkscreened poster including the schematic, source code and part list accompanies the music-generating box in an edition of 100. The set can be purchased online here for $100. Or you can read more information.

The following tracks were recorded from a 1-Bit Music box and converted to mp3. 1-Bit Music does not translate to mp3 very well, so please forgive the poor sound quality.

Lowbit music finds a home in this first of a monthly series of events at The Tank. Gameboys, Nintendos, Homebrew Hardware, and more collide with the First New York appearance of Underground Game Music Legend /VIRT/. Backing him up will be chip rocking Game B-Boy /BIT SHIFTER/ and raw yet complex waveforms of /ONE BIT MUSIC/. Hear releases from Bleep blop powerhouse label /8BITPEOPLES/ all night. 8Bit Visuals from mangled NES VJ NOTENDO with all artists all night.

PulseWave highlights the raw and rude world of Chipmusic, Gameboy beat boxing, lo-fi electronics and raw 8bit rock. Watch a generation of dithered youths brought up on a healthy diet of Italian plumbers, spiky mammals, and gender bending space pirates warp a fascination with the tinny tones of the past into the touch tone pulse of today.
